Getting This MPPM Certification is About Me, not The Porcupine Date Product
On 23 July 2026, I received the Industry Specialist (Is.) national professional certification from the Malaysian Business Empowerment Council (MPPM). This certification recognises my twenty-plus years of personal professional experience in Healthcare & Public Health. It is not — and cannot be read as — evidence of any product’s efficacy. Before sharing this news with friends in Singapore, I want to make that boundary clear.
That afternoon, I sat inside Dewan Tun Ismail at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur and watched recipients from different industries walk up in turn. The Governor of Melaka, Tun Seri Setia Dr. Haji Mohd Ali bin Mohd Rustam, was present as the officiating officer. The ceremony was formal, but not theatrical. It felt less like a moment of celebration and more like a national-level professional identity being quietly recorded into the register.
When my turn came, what went through my mind wasn’t what I had received. It was that I would now need to be more careful about every sentence I speak.
What this certification recognises — and what it does not
Industry Specialist (Is.) is a national professional accreditation established by the Malaysian Business Empowerment Council under Clause 4(i) of its 2022 Constitution. Applicants must have at least five years of professional experience in their field, and pass review by MPPM’s Assessment Panel. MPPM has stated that the system is benchmarked against equivalent accreditation programs in the UK, South Korea, and Germany.

In the health industry, whether a certification is conferred on a “product” or on a “person” carries very different weight. This one was conferred on me, the person. It recognises my twenty-plus years of practical experience in the field, my contribution to the industry, and my sustained commitment to Healthcare & Public Health.
It is not — and cannot be interpreted as — evidence of porcupine bezoar’s efficacy as a product.

I’ve been in the health industry for over twenty years. If a study is an animal model, it’s an animal model. If findings cannot be extrapolated to humans, they cannot. I’ve never crossed that line.
After receiving the Industry Specialist certification, that line has not moved — but the cost of guarding it has changed.
Before, if I said something imprecise in an article, in a talk, or in a customer conversation, the cost was “Dr Lim misspoke”. Now, if I say something imprecise, the cost is “an MPPM-accredited Industry Specialist in Healthcare & Public Health misspoke”. The weight is different, and so is the cost.
This isn’t self-imposed pressure. It’s self-reminder — the certification doesn’t allow me to say more; it obliges me to say things more carefully.

What I will continue to do
Holding this new professional designation, my work does not change. I continue along the same three lines already in front of me:
Research collaboration — the ongoing work with Guangdong Pharmaceutical University on porcupine bezoar. Following the April 2026 animal-model study in Pharmaceuticals (MDPI), the second phase is advancing into anti-tumour investigation, compositional standardisation, and multi-omics analysis. I will not extend conclusions beyond what the studies themselves support.
Industry standardisation — advancing porcupine bezoar from traditional resource toward scientific, standardised, verifiable modern health preparation. The Essence Extraction process continues to be refined. Patent applications in China and via PCT have been filed.
Public communication — continuing to speak with friends in Singapore and Malaysia in language that is honest, verifiable, and not overstated — about porcupine bezoar, about the modernisation of traditional health resources, and about how to make rational, evidence-informed health decisions.
